Singer Gil Scott-Heron is in remand in prison in New York, after being arrested last month (OCT03) on drugs charges.

Scott-Heron, 54 - considered by many to be the forefather of rap - was picked up by police in Queens, New York on 30 October, and has yet to post $10,000 (GBP6,250) bail.

The jazz-poet, whose incarceration meant he missed recent gigs at New York's KNITTING FACTORY and SOB venues, has a history of drug offences, and was sentenced to three years for drug possession in 2001.
