The Hollywood superstar bought the $16 million (£10 million) property following his marriage to the British lawyer last year (14), and they are thought to be permanently relocating to the nine-bedroom manor.

Clooney was ordered to remove a fence on the property's grounds in March (15) after an environmental group objected to the addition and now plans for a timber-framed outhouse have been contested.

Documents reveal the couple was advised by planning officials to downsize plans for the 'River House' as the new building would "harm the setting" and the riverside character of the area.

The couple has since resubmitted smaller, more modest plans for the outbuilding to a local planning committee.
