British soccer legend George Best is due to leave intensive care tomorrow (10NOV05) after a terrifying brush with death.

The football legend, who has battled with alcohol addiction, was given only hours to live after being admitted to hospital with a chest infection that spread to his kidneys and other organs.

The infection was caused by a reaction to anti-rejection drugs he has taken since having a liver transplant in 2002.

Consultant Professor Roger Williams, who has been treating Best at London's Cromwell Hospital, says, "He's doing a bit better each day."
