A plan to erect a statue honouring movie icon Gene Kelly in his native Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been put on hold because the SINGIN' IN THE RAIN star's widow isn't happy.

Fans in the actor/dancer's hometown have been fighting to honour the star, who died in 1996, since 2002, but can't proceed until his widow PATRICIA WARD KELLY gives her OK.

Kelly fan AVIVA RADBORD (corr) says, "We have heard rumours that she has decided to do something on her own."
