Game Of Thrones actor and strongman competitor Hafthor Julius Bjornsson has broken a 1,000-year-old record to be named the World's Strongest Viking.

The towering Icelandic star, who portrays Gregor Clegane, aka The Mountain, in the hit fantasy Tv series, entered the annual competition in Norway on Sunday (01Feb15) and set a new record by carrying a 1,433 pound (650 kilogram) tree log on his back for five steps. The previous record of three steps was set by Icelandic weightlifter Orm Storulfsson, who broke his back during the feat.

The 26 year old celebrated the news with a post on Instagram.com, writing, "Well today my friends I made history!! As well as winning the title of The World's Strongest Viking for the second time in a row I carried this Monster Log 5 steps! My back held up fine!! I'm on my way to my ultimate goal to win The World's Strongest Man! Nothing Can Stop Me!! Nothing Can Break Me!!"

Bjornsson will be aiming to improve on his achievements at last year's (14) World's Strongest Man contest, where he placed second.

He has also previously claimed the title of Iceland's Strongest Man.
