Calvin Klein boss Francisco Costa beat off competition from Marc Jacobs and fashion house Proenza Schouler at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards last night (05JUN06) - winning the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year gong. The star-studded bash, held at New York City's Public Library, saw Costa arrive with actress Scarlett Johansson on his arm. Johansson later presented the award to him. OLIVIER THEYSKENS was named International Designer of the Year, while THOM BROWNE collected the Menswear Designer of the Year award from crooner Harry Connick Jr. Michael Kors lost out on the accessories trophy to TOM BINNS, who was presented with the honour by movie star Lindsay Lohan. Last year's (05) Womenswear winner and wedding dress supremo Vera Wang was present at the event, alongside wrap dress pioneer Diane Von Furstenberg, Karl Lagerfeld and Donna Karan.
