Some of Hollywood's biggest secrets are set to be revealed next year, as a treasure trove of documents belonging to 20th Century Fox are put up for auction.
One major attraction for bidders will be the enduring mystery of why Elvis Presley's hair changed colour from almost blonde to Jet black in the 1950s film LOVE ME TENDER. The answer, as the documents reveal, is that he was allowed to do his own hair.
This and many other documents including those detailing JUDY GARLAND's fall into alcoholism and Marilyn Monroe's name change from NORMA JEANE DOUGHERTY are up for sale, in aid of an actors' charity.
Speaking to Variety magazine, Tom Rothman, chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, said: "Fox's heritage reflects Hollywood itself and our archives are a Tut's tomb of movie history.
"This donation is intended to get the past out of file cabinets into the hands of film lovers and let it serve the present through the Motion Picture and Television Fund."
Celebrity auctions are all the rage at the moment, with even the oddest items getting on some people's wish lists.
For example, two giant eyeballs which were used as props for British rock band Pink FLOYD have been sold, in aid of the charity Crisis, for £16,500.
