The organisers of Iceland's Secret Solstice festival will make history in June (17) by staging "events" in a natural lava tunnel.
Last year (16), festival director Fred Olafsson invited The Deftones frontman Chino Moreno to perform an acoustic set 400 feet underground in the dormant magma chamber of the Thrihnuagigur volcano as part of the weekend event, and he's planning another first this summer.
Foo Fighters and The Prodigy will headline the 2017 Secret Solstice festival in Reykjavik, but a major talking point will be the 5,000-year-old underground lava chamber concerts.
Olafsson has yet to reveal who will be performing but a spokesperson tells WENN they will feature "a prominent Icelandic artist", adding, "The shows will be be witnessed on June 17th and 18th by a small handful of guests.
"Iceland's Raufarholshellir lava tunnels were formed over 5,000 years ago during a volcanic eruption, and they have left a mark on the landscape that’s lasted throughout the centuries. This one-of-a kind experience is sure to leave a mark on the exclusive audience of 50 people, who are lucky enough to secure tickets for each show."
Rick Ross, Big Sean, Chaka Khan, Richard Ashcroft, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, and Seth Troxler are also billed to perform at this year's Secret Solstice festival.
