Florence + The Machine star Florence Welch is struggling to adapt to life without coffee after her doctor recommended she cut out caffeinated drinks to aid her recovery from a vocal illness.
The Dog Days Are Over hitmakers were forced to scrap two gigs last week (ends13Jul12) after singer Welch fell sick.
She received treatment and managed to bounce back from illness to perform on U.S. morning show Good Morning America on Wednesday (18Jul12), but the frontwoman admits it hasn't been easy - and cutting out her caffeine kicks on her doctor's orders has been the toughest part of her recovery.
Welch tells UsMagazine.com, "I had a full check up and he (her doctor) said that there wasn't any permanent damage that couldn't be restored without rest. So if I keep taking care of myself there won't be any reoccurrences.
"(But) no tea, no coffee! That was the hardest part. I had been on such a caffeine kick up until then. I was fully back on five Diet Cokes a day and two coffees in the morning. I was really twitching my way through life, but I was completely loving it. And I had to cut it out completely... so I'm back on the herbal tea."
And the British singer has no choice but to stick to the professional's advice as the band embarks on a new North American tour - because losing her voice temporarily was "the most frightening thing, literally".
