British band Florence and the Machine has been forced to pull out of two European festival gigs this week (begs09Jul12) to allow frontwoman Florence Welch to recover from a vocal injury.
The Dog Days Are Over hitmakers were due to perform at the Benicassim event in Spain on Thursday (12Jul12) and the Optimus Alive bash in Portugal on Saturday (14Jul12), but the concerts were axed on Wednesday (11Jul12) as a result of Welch's illness.
The singer admits she was determined to press on with the shows, but was told she risked losing her voice for good if she performed.
In a series of posts, she writes, "it finally happened, I've lost my voice... I've sustained a vocal injury and been told i cannot sing for a week.., seriously i felt something snap, it was very frightening...
"unfortunately this means i will not be able to perform at Benicassim and Optimus alive festival this weekend... i am so so sorry... im (sic) so sorry to all the fans, i was desperate to still perform, but was told without question not to, so as not to do permanent damage.. I hope i can make it up to you in the future, have an amazing time...yours croakily florence."
