Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne attributes his band's new "scary"rock band image to Ozzy Osbourne's Black Sabbath.

The rocker explains how Osbourne's band influenced Flaming Lips' forthcoming album At War With The Mystics, which marks a return from electronic music to organic rock.

Coyne says, "Starting with The Soft Bulletin we went from being a guitar rock band into more of a computer, keyboard and compositional-driven group.

"Now going back and jamming with a bunch of drums and guitars was... not a retreat, but an approach that just felt fresh again.

"A couple of years ago we started playing Black Sabbath's WAR PIGS LIVE. And for some reason covering the song and figuring out how Sabbath's music worked encouraged us to be a more dynamic, precise, and hopefully scary kind of rock band.

"Simply playing a song like that you can discover a new energy."
