The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

"Bad"

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Review

The 2005 feature film version of the first book in The Chronicles of Narnia series couldn't possibly be worse than this TV adaptation, one of the cheesiest and least engaging kid flicks to come along in a while. The story isn't terribly well adapted: four British kids go through a wardrobe and end up in a magical land populated by anthropomorphic animals and ruled by an evil queen while the real king, a lion named Aslan, is in exile. Too bad most of the three-hour movie consists of the kids talking to one another and various adults back home who try to convince them Narnia isn't real. Once they're in Narnia (tasked with saving the lion king) things move a little faster, but by then the special effects sink Wardrobe completely. The animals are alternately people in bad monkey suits, cheap animations pasted into the frame, or -- in the case of the lion -- a large stuffed animal with basic movement who can't even move his mouth when he speaks.

I can't imagine any child sitting through more than 15 minutes of this, much less an adult.
