Starrbooty

"Bad"

Starrbooty Review

RuPaul, RuPaul, where to begin? This sister's been doin' it for herself for more than 20 years now, and as drag queens go, she's among the funniest, most mainstream, and, it must be acknowledged, well preserved. Those legs go on forever. However, Starrbooty, Ru's self-produced do-it-yourself star vehicle -- her Mahogany you might say -- is a big, candy-colored misfire that will have you alternately groaning and averting your eyes.

Riffing on classic Pam Grier blacksploitation themes, Starrbooty's star, Starrbooty, is a "secret agent" who has returned to her "agency" to discover that her niece has been abducted by her nemesis Annaka Manners (Candis Cayne, another trannie). In order to penetrate Annaka's sleazy demimonde, Starrbooty will have to go deep undercover as a down and dirty hooker and troll the streets of New York's Meatpacking District. Coming along to help is her best friend Page Turner (Lahoma Van Zandt), another agent well schooled in whoring for information.

That's about all you need to know. Everything else just tumbles along from one outrageous hooker costume change to the next. Unlike RuPaul's family friendly PG-rated TV and movie work (she was the guidance counselor in The Brady Bunch Movie), Starrbooty is kind of rough, so keep the kids away. Amazingly enough, RuPaul populates her film with an A-list of gay porn stars, most of whom are more than happy to whip it out when the screenplay dictates. ("Dictates." Ha!) Also popping up is gay singer Ari Gold, who plays the part of a gay Hasidic pimp who favors silver leather assless chaps. When Starrbooty gives him a serious beat down, it's a cinematic moment to remember. Somebody actually wrote this!

Help us out here, Ru. These captions don't write themselves!
