Tom Selleck starred as the titular character in the original 1980s show, which ended its eight-season run in 1988, but now Longoria is hoping to revive Magnum, P.I. with a sequel series following the adventures of his daughter, Lily 'Tommy' Magnum, who heads back to Hawaii to take over her dad's detective agency.

John Rogers will pen the script for the revamped show, and executive produce the project alongside Longoria and Ben Spector for her UnbeliEVAble Entertainment vehicle.

"We knew no one could replace the iconic role of Thomas Magnum, so John decided to make the reboot a sequel and continue the adventure of a Magnum - his daughter, who was established in the original series," Longoria and Spector tell Deadline.com.

Lily was previously played onscreen by Kristen Carreira, who appeared in a handful of episodes from 1986.

Casting details and a premiere date for the new Magnum, P.I. have yet to be announced, but the show will air on America's ABC network.
