The British musician has been married to his third wife, Dutch photographer Anoushka Fisz, since 2001 and he decided the time was right for them to renew their vows.
Stewart whisked his partner away on a luxury cruise in the South Pacific in January (13) with their two young daughters and a number of friends from the music industry, who were there to help him record an album onboard.
However, the recording sessions halted when they reached French Polynesia, where Stewart had arranged for a surprise ceremony.
Country singer Martina MCBride kept Fisz busy and persuaded her to put a white dress on, while the crew transformed the deck into an island paradise, complete with sand and palm trees, reminiscent of their first ocean-side wedding in the south of France.
Stewart tells Britain's Sunday Telegraph, "Everybody kept it a secret from Annie. The hardest thing was trying to get our daughters to keep quiet, because you know what little girls are like: 'Mummy, there's a secret!' I was like, 'Shut up!'... She was detained in her room by Martina MCBride, who pretended she wanted to do a photo session with everyone wearing white. My wife didn't really believe her, but she was very insistent. She opened the door and the whole wedding was there in front of her... We were married in 2001 on a beach in the South of France run by these people from Mo'orea (in the Society Islands in French Polynesia), so we renewed our vows on the boat at the real Mo'orea. It was an amazing party."
