Greece won the 50th annual Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, Ukraine last night (21MAY05).
Hot favourite HELEN PAPARIZOU, who performed MY NUMBER ONE to a TV audience of 150 million people across Europe, finished the contest on 230 points, ahead of 23 other nations and 38 points ahead of second placed Malta.
After presenting the award to Paparizou, Ukranian President VIKTOR YUSHCHENKO, "This is the prize for the song that unites all Europe."
Romania's LUMINITA ANGHEL came in third. Norway's hotly-tipped entrant WIG WAM struggled into ninth place.
The British entrant, former Pop Idol contestant JAVINE, finished a disappointing third from last, scoring just 18 points from a telephone poll by 39 countries.
