Etta James' son has dismissed reports the ailing R&B legend has died.
The 73 year old has been in and out of hospital in recent months undergoing treatment for leukaemia and she was admitted to a California medical centre in May (11) after she was diagnosed with a potentially deadly sepsis problem, caused by a urinary tract infection.
A fake website made to look like Tmz.com surfaced late on Wednesday (03Aug11) and reported the music icon had passed away. The bogus sad news quickly spread across the internet and social networking sites like Twitter.com.
But James' son Donto shot down the false reports on Thursday (04Aug11), assuring fans and friends alike that his mother is alive and well.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "She's fine. I just saw her last night and she was fine."
James, who was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2009, has been out of the spotlight for a number of years and is currently being cared for at her home in Riverside, California.
