MONTY PYTHON star Eric Idle is facing the summer wheelchair bound after snapping a tendon during a tour of North America.

The British comedian - who has co-written a musical adaptation of the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, due to open on Broadway in February (05) - looks set to spend the next few months immobile.

Idle, 61, explains on his website, "I'm at the moment sitting in a wheelchair with a huge shocking-pink cast covering my foot and ankle up to my knee.

"My dancing days may be over. An irritating foot injury from my tour was a snapped tendon and so now I've had major foot surgery.

"I have to sit around for a couple of months awaiting the awful, hateful, painful process of physiotherapy to begin. What a summer."
