British guitar greats Eric Clapton and Keith Richards teamed up onstage in New York on Saturday night (25Feb12) as part of a tribute to late blues man Hubert Sumlin.
The Rolling Stones star made an unannounced appearance at the Apollo Theater during Clapton's Howlin For Hubert set and the two old pals ran through a rendition of Howling Wolf’s Going Down Slow, Little Red Rooster and Spoonful.
Also taking part in the all-star tribute: Buddy Guy, Billy Gibbons, Derek Trucks and Elvis Costello, among others.
Guitarist Sumlin, who was Howlin’ Wolf’s sideman for decades, died in December (11).
