Soccer superstar-turned-actor Eric Cantona has launched a campaign to help France's homeless population.
The Looking For Eric star is seeking signatures from French mayors as part of his bid to seek better housing for the destitute.
The former Manchester United star is a patron of the Abbe-Pierre Foundation, a charity committed to improving the living conditions of French people.
Charity spokesman Patrick Doutreligne says, "Eric Cantona is seeking the 500 signatures, so that housing is a priority."
The retired sportsman's bid for the signatures was initially considered the first step in his bid to run for political office and perhaps even challenge current French leader Nicolas Sarkozy.
