Sixties singer PETULA CLARK has given her blessing to English pop star Emma Bunton after the former SPICE GIRL recorded a cover of her hit DOWNTOWN. Clark leaped into the charts with the catchy song in 1964 and admits she was surprised to hear Bunton singing it to raise money for British charity Children In Need. Clark, 74, says, "Neither I not the song's composer (TONY HATCH) knew the song was being done. "I could ask, 'Why Downtown?' and, 'What's the point of doing a new version of it?' but Emma's recording is wonderful and it's for a great causes, so I hope it does well." Bunton's cover entered the UK charts at number three last month (NOV06) and currently sits at number 11.
