Bosnian director Emir Kusturica has been selected to chair the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL jury this year (05).

The 50-year-old film-maker has won the French event's prestigious Palme D'Or prize twice previously - once in 1985 with WHEN FATHER WAS AWAY ON BUSINESS and again in 1995 with UNDERGROUND - and will now head the panel that chooses this year's winner.

Kusturica says, "Now it is my turn to defend the festival's values.

"I have given myself the mission, as president of the jury, to put aesthetics and art at the heart of the show."

The Cannes Film Festival takes place from 11-22 May (05).

Last year's (04) festival jury was headed by Kill Bill director QUENTIN TARANTINO.
