Rappers Eminem and Nas were honoured for their musical efforts during Detroit, Michigan's HIP-HOP SUMMIT on Saturday (26APR03).

Rap mogul Russell Simmons was among those who announced that the hip-hop stars would receive awards for their outstanding contributions to youth empowerment and community development.

The pair were handed their awards at COBO ARENA in Detroit, with Eminem receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award for his charitable work and contributions to support youth empowerment in Detroit.

Nas received the Heroes Award for his music and hit video I CAN, a song in which he urges youngsters to believe in themselves.

Def Jam boss Simmons says, "Eminem and Nas continue to make outstanding contributions towards the empowerment of youth, which results in encouraging young people to fulfil their highest aspirations."
