English actress Emily Blunt was determined to make her role in THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA British - because she insists she wanted a "pretentious" accent to portray her fashion-conscious character. The rising screen star's character was intended to be American, but Blunt managed to wriggle out of having to perform a US dialect when she convinced director David Frankel of her reasons. She says, "I was originally supposed to play her as an American girl, but as soon as I read the script I felt very strongly that she should be British. "There is something very pretentious about a British accent and I thought it would be quite funny to play. "So I put my foot down and luckily the director agreed."
