Veteran rockers U2 are sitTIng at the top of the UK singles chart, after their new single SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN beat off competition from Elvis Presley to secure the number one spot.

Presley's WOODEN HEART is another new entry at number two. The track is the latest in a succession of Presley songs to storm the charts in recent weeks - his record label are releasing his 18 number one hits this year (05) to mark the 70th anniversary of the rock 'n' roller's birth.

Last week's (06FEB05) number one, Eminem's LIKE TOY SOLDIERS is down to third place, while SOLDIER by Destiny's Child/TI/Lil Wayne is a new entry at number four.

Brian McFadden and Delta Goodrem's duet, ALMOST HERE, has fallen from number three to become this week's number five.

Meanwhile, following their success at last week's (09FEB05) Brit Awards, Keane have climbed seven places to top the UK albums chart with their debut disc HOPES AND FEARS.

Scissor Sisters, who also won big at the Brits, have seen their eponymous album jump from number five to become this week's second best-selling disc.

Athlete's TOURIST, which topped the albums chart last week, sits at number three.
