LATEST: A handgun once owned by music legend Elvis Presley has been recovered a week after it was stolen from a museum. The prized item was taken last Tuesday (14Aug07) from the Elvis After Dark museum near his Graceland, Tennessee home. The black, 9mm Smith + Wesson pistol was discovered by janitor Travis Brookins in a portable toilet close to the museum. Memphis police Lieutenant Jerry Gwyn said Brookins took the gun home to clean it, unaware of its significance. He says, "He called us and said he thinks he had the gun and brought it to us." Presley died in a bathroom at the age of 42 on 16 August 1977.
