Sir Elton John has been honoured by bosses at his favourite U.K. soccer club after having a stand named after him.

The Rocket Man hitmaker has served as honorary life president of his beloved Watford Football Club since 2009, and on Saturday (13Dec14), he returned to Vicarage Road to launch the new Sir Elton John Stand.

Taking to the field with his partner David Furnish and their sons, Zachary and Elijah, before the match against Wigan Athletic, he told the audience, "Watford Football Club is forever in my heart.

"When I was six years old, I used to come and stand... I never thought I'd ever have a stand named after me. I never thought I'd sit in a stand!

"It's in the top 25 clubs in England and we should be very proud of that...

"Thank you very, very much - this is one of the greatest days of my life."

Elton, who previously owned the club from 1976 to 1987 and again from 1997 to 2002, proved to be Watford's lucky charm - they beat Wigan 2-1.
