SIR Elton John was "very close" to death as he suffered seizures during his battle with drugs in the early years of his career.
The Rocket Man was addicted to alcohol and cocaine and in 1975 he suffered an overdose.
Sir Elton has previously credited HIV/AIDS victim Ryan White with giving him the determination to quit drugs after the teenager died in 1990 - and now he's revealed how dangerous his addiction had become, admitting he almost lost his life.
He tells TV presenter Piers Morgan, "(I became) very close (to death). I mean, I would have an epileptic seizure and turn blue, and people would find me on the floor and put me to bed, and then 40 minutes later I'd be snorting another line.
"This is how bleak it was. I'd smoke joints, I'd drink a bottle of whiskey and then I'd stay up for three days."
The full interview with Sir Elton will air in the U.K. on Sunday night (12Dec10).
