Sheila Farebrother has revealed she is not on speaking terms with her strong-willed son after a petty argument led to an estrangement almost seven years ago, when she refused to cut ties from his former manager, John Reid.

She tells Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "To my utter amazement, he told me he hated me. And he banged the phone down. Imagine. To me, his mother."

Farebrother, who recently turned 90, reveals Elton reached out to her on her birthday and sent her a huge bouquet of orchids, and now the proud mum is hoping for a reconciliation, but she wants nothing to do with Furnish.

She adds, "I've got over all the hurt of those seven years. I've got over all the nasty things and the hurtfulness. And really, Furnish doesn't want to be with me and I certainly don't want to be with him."

Farebrother has never met her son's two kids with Furnish, but she claims she was not even aware they were in the process of becoming parents.

She says, "I was never even told that he intended to have a child by a surrogate mother. When I found out it did surprise me. I didn't know he had a son until I read it in the newspapers.

"That little boy's four now. He's not seen me, he doesn't know I exist. What's the point? It wouldn't be normal. It wouldn't be like an old grandma with the kids, where you could take the kids out.

"He might say they've (the kids) got a good life, but they haven't got a normal life when they're living with nannies. And they haven't got a proper gran either, have they?"

Despite all this, Farebrother tells the Mail she has made peace with their estrangement, adding, "He lives in a different world now - I call it Elt's World.

"He obviously doesn't want to have anything to do with me and I'm quite OK with that. If that makes him happy and he's happy, that's OK by me."
