Elton John has been rushed to hospital in Los Angeles, with a serious respiratory infection, Tmz.com has reported. Elton was taken to Cedars-Sinai hospital at around 6am yesterday (May 23, 2012) and has been forced to cancel four concerts in Las Vegas this weekend, as a result of the illness.
After performing a number of tests, doctors have ordered Elton to rest for at least seven days, meaning that he will be unable to perform at his 'Million Dollar Piano' concerts that he had planned. He was told that he needs "complete rest and antibiotic treatment to prevent damage." The 65 year old singer was apologetic, saying, "It feels strange not to be able to perform these 'Million Dollar Piano' concerts at the Colosseum ... I love performing the show and I will be thrilled when we return to the Colosseum in October to complete the 11 concerts." He added "All I can say to the fans is 'sorry I can't be with you.'" According to Tmz, it seems as though Elton has now been released from hospital.
This is the second time this year that Elton has had to cancel live performances. In February, the 'Rocket Man' singer was struck down with a bad case of food poisoning and was forced to pull out of two Las Vegas shows. Recently, Elton and his partner David Furnish revealed that they plan to have another baby; a little brother or sister to their son Zachary.
