Ellie Goulding announced a new partnership with sports mega-brand Nike this week, the English singer-songwriter played an acoustic set at their Niketown Fashion's Night Out event on Thursday (8/9/2011) and went on to confirm that she'll be running in London for the 'Nike + Run To The Beat' half-marathon on September 25th 2011.
In preparation for the event, Goulding has been filming a documentary that places together her twin loves of running and music; she has also teamed up with producer Alex Metric to record a half hour running mix entitled 'Into The Light.' She's not the first to record an exercise aid for Nike of course; LCD Soundsystem famously released '45:33' in 2006, featuring ideas that would go on to form their second album 'Sound Of Silver.'
Speaking to Rolling Stone, the 24 year-old enthused about her passion for running, telling them that "It gives me strength, endurance, power, brain clearance, good skin from all the water I have to drink... so many things," though she was quick to deny it as an influence on her music, stating that "Writing is a much darker place for me."
Having initially shot to success after topping the Bbc's Sound of 2010 List and winning the Brit Awards Critics' Choice Award that same year, Goulding has gradually found success in America too, with the US release of her debut LP 'Lights' earlier this year breaching the Billboard Top 200 and going on to reach a peak of 76.
