Ellie Goulding ''never planned'' to become famous but thinks her drive to succeed helped her.
Ellie Goulding never planned to be famous.
The 'Starry Eyes' singer - who was honoured with the Critics' Choice Award at this year's BRITs - thinks her sense of determination and focus has driven her to be more successful than she could have comprehended.
She said: "I always imagined - in face I planned - to have a job and get a house and a car because you don't really go off and become famous from Hereford in Wales.
"I never thought fame was an option. But everything that has come along has helped me achieve it in some way. For example, about five years ago I woke up one morning and wanted to run. I just started running. And that helped me focus on what I wanted."
The 23-year-old pop star - who has had a UK number one album - also revealed she is not particularly "rock 'n' roll".
She said: "My band are all in long-term relationships and really sensible, so the most rock 'n' roll thing we do is throw fruit at the walls."
Ellie recently revealed she was "surprised" to pick up the Critics' Choice prize, admitting she didn't believe she was worthy of the accolade.
She said: "I'd gone to the BRITs feeling I didn't really deserve to be there. I'd only released one single and winning a prize wasn't something I'd been working towards.
"Getting an award meant a lot, but the rest of the night was bizarre. I was sitting on a table with Jay-Z and Girls Aloud. That kind of thing isn't supposed to happen to girls like me."
