Ellie Goulding is helping the homeless at Christmas.

The 27-year-old pop sensation is keen to treat those who are less fortunate than herself during the festive period so is giving up her Christmas Eve (24.12.14) to spend time with people who won't have company during the holidays.

She revealed: ''I'm volunteering all day at a shelter. I've done it for a few years. It's fun and part of the reason I run my gigs.''

The star recently performed a sold-out show at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in aid of homeless charity Streets of London, but likes to be hands on when she provides help because she enjoys chatting with the people who are in need of some Christmas cheer.

She said: ''It's not just people who are homeless in the shelters but also those who are lonely and don't have someone to spend time with. I was chatting to a guy last year who was a musician from Africa who had found himself homeless. The thought of someone not having a Christmas...''

The 'Burn' hitmaker - originally from Herefordshire - has also revealed why she has become so involved with homeless charities in particular, explaining she feels lucky to have come from a family who were able to support her when she was younger meaning she wasn't forced to live on the streets.

She added: ''It's so scary because it happens so quickly and to anyone. It could be any of us.

''I was pretty much by myself in London. I had a room but not a family home - I had to go back if anything went wrong. My situation was a luxury.''
