Australian supermodel and lingerie designer Elle Macpherson has angered British women by accusing them of having appalling taste in underwear.
The lithe beauty earns millions from her lingerie range INTIMATES - and claims she is single-handedly responsible for introducing British women to the idea of dressing seductively for their men.
Elle said in a New Zealand TV interview, "It has taken me quite some time to re-educate the English. They are not renowned for their lingerie bravado.
"They are not really a country that has a reputation for changing their underwear very often. We have had to educate the English women into enjoying their lingerie."
JILL KENTON, director of leading lingerie company RIGBY AND PELLER, fumes, "All you have to do is look at these styles and the girls - Penny Lancaster, Claire Sweeney and RACHEL STEVENS - modelling them to know that the English woman is anything but old-fashioned."
While Jacqueline Gold, chief executive of lingerie retailer ANN SUMMERS, adds, "Elle's comments should be left Down Under."17/11/2003 09:32
