Danish jazz star NIELS-HENNING OERSTED PEDERSEN died of heart failure at his home in Ishoef, Denmark on Tuesday (19APR05). He was 58.
The double bass player performed with huge jazz names during his 35-year career, including COUNT BASIE, DIZZY GILLESPIE, Ella Fitzgerald, DEXTER GORDON, SONNY ROLLINS, BUD POWELL, BILL EVANS, LARRY CORYELE and JOE PASS.
Oersted Pedersen joined OSCAR PETERSON's trio in 1973.
In 1977 he was named "best double bass player" by critics of MELODY MAKER magazine.
MARIANNE JUL, his manager for over a decade, laments, "This comes as a great shock to us, particularly since he was not ill and had just finished touring Denmark with his trio."
Oersted Pedersen is survived by his wife and three children.21/04/2005 17:20
