The Dame, who was married eight-times in total, was treated last month at a hospital in Los Angeles and underwent heart surgery in 2009. Considered one of the greatest actresses of the Hollywood's golden age, Taylor won two Oscars during the 1960's for her performances in 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf' and 'Butterfield 8'. Her son Michael Wilding released a statement earlier today, confirming his mother's passing and saying, "We will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world".
As well as her legendary on-screen performances, Elizabeth Taylor was also renowned for her colourful personal life, which included two tempestuous marriages to the Welsh film star RICHARD BURTON.
