Elizabeth Olsen is to star in new independent comedy 'Ingrid Goes West'.

The 27-year-old actress will appear opposite Aubrey Plaza in the movie which will focus on the modern fascination with celebrity culture.

Plaza is to play the titular character Ingrid who becomes obsessed with social media star Taylor Sloane, who will be portrayed by Olsen.

Blinded by Taylor's world of champagne-fuelled parties and glamour, Ingrid decides to move west and become the star's best friend with disastrous consequences for both.

The movie is being helmed by Matt Spicer, who is making his directorial debut on the project, and shooting has commenced in Los Angeles.

Spicer has also co-written the script with David Branson Smith.

Olsen - who plays Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - will next be seen in thriller 'Wind River' in which she appears with her 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' co-star Jeremy Renner.

Plaza, 32, stars in 'Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates', which is out later this month, and she also has a role in 'X-Men' spin-off TV series 'Legion'.
