Funk icon Edmund Sylvers has lost his battle with lung cancer at 47.

The BOOGIE FEVER singer, who fronted 1970s disco group THE SYLVERS, battled the illness for almost a year, according to his family.

Sylvers was just a teenager when he started scoring hits with his high-pitched voice.

He fronted his family sextet on five hit albums and scored single success with tracks like FOOL'S PARADISE and HIGH SCHOOL DANCE.
