Eddie Murphy's role as an overweight black woman in a new film has enraged black rights groups across the US. The actor plays a variety of parts in forthcoming movie NORBIT, but his turn as a portly black lady has been criticised by activists for perpetuating the stereotype of large women in the black community. ROBERT ENTMAN, author of THE BLACK IMAGE IN THE WHITE MIND: MEDIA AND RACE IN AMERICA, slams Murphy for letting the black community down. He says, "There is no excuse for him to lend his prestige to something like this. "African American stars have to take some responsibility for their actions."
