British actress BARBARA WINDSOR almost ended her relationship with her young husband SCOTT MITCHELL after falling ill in 2002, because she was terrified of him seeing her as an "old woman". The 69-year-old star, famed for her performances in the cult British comedy movies CARRY ON and latterly in UK soap opera Eastenders, was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr syndrome, which left her barely able to move. But despite her fears, Mitchell was determined to nurse her back to health. She says, "I'd always thought of myself as 20 years younger than my real age. Then suddenly I became this very old woman. "I couldn't walk, I couldn't do anything. Scott had to wash me. "I was so frightened he might leave, I told him to go. I pushed him away. "I just wanted to wallow in self-pity."
