THE POPE's television viewing habits are set for a boost, following the announcement of the launch of a new channel by British broadcaster the BBC in Italy and The Vatican this summer (04).

The BBC have signed a deal to broadcast hit shows including soap opera Eastenders and religious comedy THE VICAR OF DIBLEY in the Mediterranean country and Holy state from August onwards.

A BBC Prime spokesman enthuses, "We will be broadcasting in The Vatican for the first time and we hope all of our shows provide excellent entertainment."

Italy and The Vatican are the latest countries to receive BBC PRIME - the channel already has 15 million subscribers across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
