Eighties pop icons Duran Duran were left stunned at the MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS when their presenting stint turned into a major honour for them.

The reformed British supergroup took to the RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL stage with Avril Lavigne and Kelly Osbourne to present the Best Dance Video to JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, but were handed an unexpected Lifetime Achievement Award.

The five-piece were left a little embarrassed when a planned video tribute to them fell flat and promos for pop classics like RIO and GIRLS ON FILM appeared on a giant screen behind them without any sound.

But frontman Simon Le Bon was still thrilled. He said, "This is a bit of a surprise. Wow." Bandmate NICK RHODES added, "I think we've been PUNK'D."

The group have never won a VMA before.
