Former GUNS N' ROSES star Duff Mckagan was left speechless when he was offered drugs at his gig in Los Angeles this week (beg15Oct12) after years of speaking publicly about his battle to overcome his addictions.
The rocker played at famed venue The Viper Room on Tuesday (16Oct12) with his band Duff MCKagan's Loaded, and reveals he was offered cocaine by a man who approached him in a bathroom.
MCKagan, who has been sober for years, turned the drugs down and reveals he is shocked to discover fans still think of him as a user after his long battle to get clean.
In a column for Seattleweekly.com, he writes, "Something happened to me just this week - twice, actually! - that I always find pretty damn funny... I played three shows this week. My dive into addiction and my way out. By now, it's a pretty well-known story, I think. If you are buying a ticket to this particular show, it's a fair assumption that you probably know I don't do drugs. Right? Apparently not...
"Your columnist went into the men's room at the Viper Room in L.A. Your columnist simply has to urinate. Your columnist is nervous for the show, as he patiently waits his turn for the urinal. Your columnist gets offered a bump of cocaine right there - d**k in hand and everything! I played a standard rock show the next night, and same thing happened - except this time... with weed!"
MCKagan insists he doesn't have a problem with people who take drugs, but he finds it strange to be offered illegal substances.
He adds, "I find no fault with the people who offer me such things, it's just f**kin' odd sometimes."
