The Donnie Darko actress and Ugly Betty star are to be congratulated at the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation’s (AWMF) prize giving ceremony on 6 June (17), which recognises female celebrities for “their outstanding achievements across new and traditional media platforms”.

Drew, 42, and 32-year-old America will be joined by other honourees including Canadian-American comedienne and writer Samantha Bee and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay.

"If we learned one thing this year, it is that the strength, courage and contributions of women are crucial and necessary components in moving the world forward," Sarah Foss, AWMF chair and chief product officer at Imagine Communications, said in a statement. "As we look to honour women in media, we take pause and recognise the millions of women who are not able to use their voice and creativity to share their message with the world. We hear you. We are you. And we stand beside you.”

As well as being an in demand actress Drew has her own production company, Flower Films, which has projects including film How to be Single and Netflix TV show Santa Clarita Diet on its resume. She also launched her cruelty-free Flower Beauty cosmetics range in 2013.

Meanwhile America was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2007 and has been dubbed a role model for young Hispanics thanks to her acting success. The star has also been politically active throughout her career and spoke at the Women’s March on Washington earlier this year (17).
