Drew Barrymore is building up a library of her favourite books because she can't bear to give them away once she has read them.

The Charlie's Angels actress insists on writing her name in every book she finishes reading and then hoarding it after giving one prized novel to a friend and never seeing it again.

She says, "I always put my name in a book as soon as I'm done with it because it's like this adventure that I've gone on.

"I remember a person borrowed a book from me... and they never returned it, and, to this day, I see them and I'm like, 'You stole that book from me.'

"I'd give away my house, the clothes off my back, but a book that I've read is so important to me."
