Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum hip-hop superstar Drake whose new album"Nothing Was The Same" is one of the most feverishly anticipated new albums of the year, is vying with Kings Of Leon for the number 1 spot in the UK chart this weekend. With expected week one sales of 65,000 plus, Drake will boast the biggest week one sales for a hip hop artist since Eminem in 2010. That figure is more than double first week UK sales by fellow hip hop giants Kanye West and Jay Z. The album is also expected to enter the Billboard Chart at number 1 with astonishing sales of over 725,000 week one making it the second highest selling week one debut of this year after Justin Timberlake's 20/20.
Sales of the album have been propelled by Drakes' stunning single "Hold On, We're Going Home" which has proved to be a massive hit peaking at #5 in the UK chart. Drake has recently also featured on friend, and fellow Toronto native, The Weeknd's single "Live For".
The album was produced by long time musical partner Noah "40" Shebib and Jay Z features on the track "Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2" which contains elements of Ellie Goulding's "Don't Say A Word." Other featured tracks include Started From The Bottom", "Tuscan Leather", "Worst Behaviour", "305 To My City" and "Wu-Tang Forever".
Cash Money Records co-founder and C.E.O. Bryan "Baby" Williams aka Birdmanenthusiastically states, "An artist like Drake comes along only once in a lifetime. His talent as a lyricist, performer, and creative is unparalleled. This next single is the perfect offering from his forthcoming album, Nothing Was The Same, which is full of amazing music."
Drake has enjoyed a landmark 2013. He won his first-ever Grammy Award in the category of "Best Rap Album" for his critically revered platinum album, Take Care, and he's remained a presence across both hip-hop and popular culture.
