Drake did drugs before his first ever audition - to appear in TV show 'Degrassi: The Next Generation' - but still managed to get the part.
Drake did drugs before his first ever audition.
The 'Started from the Bottom' rapper got his first break appearing as the character Jimmy Brooks on Canadian TV series 'Degrassi: The Next Generation' and says the day he went for the part was also the first time he smoked marijuana.
He told talk show host Jimmy Fallon: ''It was the first audition I went on, and it was a real pivotal day of my life because but it was also the day that I got accepted by these real cool Jewish kids at school. They were finally like, 'yeah, come over.' And I had this tug-of-war moment where I did something I shouldn't have done, that starts with 'w' and ends with 'eed.' ''
Explaining the effect the drug had on him, he added: ''I started really getting paranoid. I thought I'd ruined my whole life, I was splashing water on my face constantly, it was like a [spot removal lotion] Clearasil commercial. I showed up to the audition, and got just a little less paranoid, and did what I could. I was devastated, and couldn't tell my mom, but I ended up getting a call back and getting the role.''
The star has previously admitted he likes to drink wine, smoke marijuana and has ''sipped codeine'' but tries to remain responsible.
He has previously said: ''I do it all within moderation. I'm not into drugs.''
Drake, 27, also says he would never perform while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, adding: ''I don't understand people who can go out on stage under the influence of anything, I have to be straight and clear minded.''
