Rapper Drake has attacked Thrift Shop hitmaker Macklemore over the multiple Grammy winner's "cheap" apology text to Kendrick Lamar after beating him to four hip-hop honours at the prizegiving last month (Jan14).
In his post-awards text to Lamar, MACklemore suggested his fellow nominee should have shared in MACklemore & Ryan Lewis' success by picking up his own award.
He wrote, "You got robbed. I wanted you to win."
Lamar has since responded, thanking MACklemore for his kind words, but the text, which was shared on Instagram.com, didn't sit well with Drake, who tells Rolling Stone magazine, "That s**t was wack as f**k."
He adds, "I was like, 'You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W (win), and if you feel you didn't deserve it, go get better - make better music'.
"It felt cheap. It didn't feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?"
And Drake feels MACklemore should have sent a text to all the other nominees in the rap categories, not just Lamar: "To name just Kendrick? That s**t made me feel funny. No, in that case, you robbed everybody. We all need text messages!"
