Classic sixties movie Dr Zhivago has been voted the best British film of all time - by the country's politicians.

The SIR DAVID LEAN movie, which stars Omar Sharif and Julie Christie, beat off competition from Lawrence Of Arabia, also directed by Lean, which came in second place.

Third in the poll of 650 British politicians came the 1981 film CHARIOTS OF FIRE.

However, the survey, by E! ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION, failed to yield a response from Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The top ten movies are as follows:

2. LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962)

3. Chariots of Fire (1981)

4. THE 39 Steps (1935)

5. ZULU (1964)
