British actor Douglas Hodge has been forced to pull out of rehearsals for London stage play LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, after falling ill with bronchitis. The 47-year-old star was due to take on the lead role of Albin in the Terry Johnson-directed production at the capital's Menier Chocolate Factory, but is currently resting after he was diagnosed with bronchitis in both lungs, causing severe bronchospasm (difficulty breathing). But Hodge is confident of making a full recovery, and is hoping to return to La Cage Aux Folles in mid-December (07), before the play's official opening in January (08). Understudy Spencer Stafford is currently filling in for Hodge.
